National Read a Book Day is a Special Day

National Read a Book Day is observed annually on September 6th and serves as an incentive for everyone to grab a book, find a comfortable chair, and spend some quality time reading.

Without a doubt, books are entertainment, an educational tool, and also a time machine. And reading improves memory and concentration and also reduces stress. So sit back, relax, and read a book.

According to NationalTodayCalendar, "Whether you prefer to escape into the world of fiction or learn something new, celebrate with your favorite books. Visit the library or the local bookstore. Pick up a new book or read an old favorite. Explore the past in history books and memoirs or dive into poetry. Read aloud to a child or give them a book to read on their own. Share the stories you're reading using #ReadABookDay to post on social media."

As of today, I've read 40 books this year and have shared a number of my faves already here on my blog, so I'll share the last book I read to celebrate NATIONAL READ A BOOK DAY.

THE STOLEN  LIFE OF COLETTE MARCEAU by KRISTIN HARMEL

The story is a gripping tale of one woman told during two time periods, during World War II and 2018. I don't want to give anything away - there are big surprises near the end - but suffice it to say, I will not soon forget this book!

Here were some memorable quotes from the book:

"It is in the times of greatest danger that we must summon our greatest courage."

"The best secrets are meant to be shared."

"The memory of your parents is alive in you, and in that way, they're still here."

"To give people books was to give them the world in their hands."

"One doesn't need to have a specific title or a specific education to become an agent of change. Change happens one act of courage at a time, one act of kindness at a time, one act of faith at a time. And those are things that all of us are capable of."

Here are some interesting facts about September 6th that you can learn from books:

Jane Addams was born on September 6, 1860. Best known for her activism, Addams supported education for women and the equal right to vote. In 1931, she became the first American woman to be honored with the Nobel Peace Prize.

Carly Fiorina was born on September 6, 1954. She became CEO of the Hewlett-Packard Company in 1999, and this achievement made her the first woman to lead a company listed on the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA). Prior to that, at AT&T, she became the company's first female officer.
