Back in early 2024, I wrote a blog post featuring my favorite marketing terms. I shared definitions about "brand personality," "unique selling proposition," "social listening," "call to action," and "key performance metrics/indicators." With a new year upon us, I thought it would be a good time to share five brand marketing terms that everyone should know.
BRAND IDENTITY
According to Business Dictionary, "The visible elements of a brand (such as colors, design, logotype, name, symbol) that together identify and distinguish a brand in consumers' minds."
BRAND PILLARS
Brand pillars are the characteristics that set a company apart from its competitors and can include convenience, reliability, on-time delivery, innovation, etc.
BRAND POSITIONING
Brand positioning refers to the process of creating a unique identity for a brand in the minds of its target audience. Brand positioning answers the questions, "What makes your brand different, and why should customers choose you over the competitors?"
CO-BRANDING
Co-branding is a marketing strategy that combines the strengths, awareness, and customers of one brand with a second brand to increase brand equity, target specific markets, and/or combine brand values in the mind of consumers.
NICHE POSITIONING
Niche positioning involves targeting a specific market segment and focusing all branding efforts on catering to that group. This strategy is effective for small brands that cannot compete on a large scale but can dominate a niche. Toms Shoes is an example of niche positioning. By aligning its brand with social causes and committing to giving away a pair of shoes for every purchase, Toms has built a loyal customer base that values philanthropy.
